Bento just for AP today. Rice mixed with salmon furikake, meatballs, tamagoyaki with spinach, and edamame. This one is lacking in red, I wish I've got a couple of strawberries in there. But we're going away for the weekend and I was trying not to buy any more fresh food yesterday.



I had a handful of spinach leaves left in the salad drawer so I threw it into the tamagoyaki. Just make it as you normally would, pour the beaten egg into the pan, scatter in the spinach leaves and scramble the mixture slightly. Allow to set and roll as normal. Spinach leaves cook/wilt very quickly so the residual heat from the tamogoyaki roll will cook it easily.

So here are the two finished books for my project with kevin hulett, I am excited to see them when he finishes and I am never touching goldleaf again *lawl*

So the details: a large and small journal - the large has 50 pages and the small has 200, medium weight watercolor paper with handtorn edges. The covers are made with two sheets of ivory handmade paper that has leaves embedded, covered in a layer of net lace, then topped with pieces from an old vintage sweater. Dry flowers are sprinkled lightly on the covers and the spine is lightly brushed with goldleaf and the entire thing is sealed with 4-5 layers of mod podge. The insides are goldlead and mod podge sealed, as well. Both fit snugly into display boxes.

This was bento from Monday.  I am so behind in my posts.  Went to Assaggio's restaurant the night before and got a great veal marsala.  I hardly ever order veal.
 
Salad with lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, bell peppers in one box.  Veal marsala and linguine in the other.

Today the pain from my neck was really wearing on me. I finally gave in a took a pain killer, then got out my polaroid pinhole camera and holgaroid and distracted myself. I used some of the photos I took here in this spread. The good news is, yesterday I got a tabletop easel to try to work on so I won't have to look down, and did this on the easel.

I was working on some post about Japanese lebbies and what I'm doing tomorrow and all that but then I had one of those moments where shit gets put in perspective and it sort of stopped mattering.

The California wildfires are particularly bad in SoCal right now. Specifically in the Santa Barbara area where I spent a lot of my time when I was in California but not in LA. Even more specifically, Goleta, where amenislytherin is. It's bad to the point that she's had to evacuate.. she's fine, but I still can't help worry.

Reading all these news articles (because I've been Googling for them compulsively) makes me angry, too.. California's firefighters don't have the resources and aren't getting the help they need to get this under control. It reminds me of how Katrina made me feel.. just this absolute rage that more people aren't paying attention to this, that more help isn't being sent there. Ugh, this country makes me so mad.

Please think positive things for everyone over there.

It's hard to process the fact that I actually *live* here again.

I'm suffering from some serious culture shock at the moment. Smog, trash, bad traffic, masses of humanity failing to recognize and respect their fellow man. Ah, but to experience convenience once more! 3rd street did not fail to present all that I love and hate about LA in a delightful seven hour stretch.

The drive back was relatively uneventful, and Greg remains the Best-Roommate-Ever for driving up to Idaho to help me get all my crap back to LA.

It feels strange to be here without laila_astri. ;_;

AX on Saturday and Sunday, maybe, maybe on Friday. I need to unpack. I don't even know what to wear. Don't even know if I'll cosplay.

I keep trying to talk my mom into doing lolita since she's been sewing for a century and that means free lolita for me and money for her (when she sells something and I dont steal it). Anyway, she makes her own patterns and she's fucking amazing. I was showing her a country lolita dress I wanted from meta and woeing about price.

It feels weird having a dress like this that fits, most of the ones I get are kids stuff and never fit right but she made me a dress <333 What I like most is the fact she tried to gather the front of the skirt so the lace layers stick out, this will look amazing when my crinoline comes in. I mean, if I wore lolita out, which I dont and never will. But dress up!! <3

I could live without the loose bib but I guess it's fitting for shabby country lolita . Aw puffy elastic sleeves!










She also bought me these goofy lace socks, they look like fetish footwear XD I asked her if she went into a porn store for them and she didnt look impressed with my sass. I can't take ankle socks seriously, but they are cute I guess, maybe if I wore them over stockings.

Last night we had a HUGE storm, which subsided today to warmth once again. Portland weather is ridiculous! After taking 447 pictures for about two hours, this was the best shot of the lightning I captured (I've been wanting to catch lightning by camera for a long time now, finally did it!):



I have much more to talk about right now, but I just don't have time. Quick updates:

-Unfortunately, I will not be making it to Comic-Con. It's just cutting my financial responsibilities way too close to go on that trip.

-However, I will be at this year's Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco this November! I will have my own table, third year in a row, and there will be Tabouli Brothers!

-I may be in Hawaii around September. Anyone on here from Hawaii? Kauai? I'll be there for a week or so.

-Japan for a month, 2010. Felipe Smith, I'll be seeing you then!

Ben and I are going to be getting a hedgehog and ferrets.Hedgie first.
We're also going to be moving out of the house before the lease is up...and moving to our own placee!!(fingers crossed)
I'm playing UFS harder and more seriously. i want to place in World's, expecially since i did so miserable last weekend at Nat's. I have confidence in the Lien deck we built, though!

Job is the same as always. *shrug*
slowly losing some of the weight now that i'm still on the diet AND coming off the Effexor. hopefully, within the year, i'll be antidepressant free with just an emergency supply of Xanex (that i hope i don't abuse!!)

Speaking of medications, i'm wondering if i refilled my muscle relaxers, would it help with my jaw grinding and chomping during the night?? Starting Saturday the right side of my jaw has been insufferable sore. i can't open it wide, and chewing hurts. WTF?! maybe i'm grinding too hard on that side??? i;m a little concerned, to be quite honest.

i STILL can't make up my mind on what i want to cosplay. my mind changes every five minutes. so fucking frustrating.
